Apex Legends is implementing a significant test in its Ranked mode, starting May 19th at 10 AM PT. The primary change focuses on premades squad restrictions, aiming to create more balanced and competitive lobbies.
Ranked Premade Tier Limit Test
Players will now only be able to join premade squads where squadmates have a differential of one Ranked tier, a reduction from the previous two-tier allowance. This adjustment is designed to prevent wide skill gaps within a single squad, which often led to imbalanced matches.
Respawn Entertainment's goal with this test is to ensure players consistently match against opponents of similar skill. By limiting the ability to form squads with broad skill bands, the developers expect to foster a more fair and competitive experience for everyone in Ranked play.
This test will run until the end of the current split, concluding on June 23rd. The results will likely inform future permanent changes to Apex Legends' Ranked matchmaking system.
