Rainbow Six Siege Y11S1.2: Ranked Rework, Operator Balancing, and New Player Onboarding

Ubisoft has detailed significant upcoming changes for Rainbow Six Siege's Year 11, Season 1 mid-season update, Y11S1.2. The update focuses on improving the Ranked experience, balancing Operators, assisting new players, and strengthening player protection.

Ranked Map Rotation Changes
Based on community feedback, the Ranked map rotation is undergoing a major overhaul. Instead of removing maps mid-season, five new maps will be added, expanding the competitive pool to 17. With Ranked 3.0, map bans will follow a new structure:
- 2 maps from the competitive pool
- 1 map from a showcased pool
- 2 maps from a seasonal pool
Map rotations will also dynamically adjust based on player behavior, with frequently banned maps appearing less often and popular ones more frequently.
Mid-Season Operator Balancing
Eight Operators are receiving adjustments to enhance fairness and gameplay:
- Smoke: Regains his Deployable Shield.
- Rauora: Receives D.O.M. Panel Launcher, D.O.M. Panel, and resource updates.
- Jackal: Gains new vertical tracking potential.
Other Operators, including Glaz, Clash, Frost, Thunderbird, and Grim, are also receiving refinement changes. Full details are available in the Y11S1.2 Designer's Notes.
Year 11 Season 2 Operator Remaster: Dokkaebi
The Dokkaebi Remaster aims to refine her powerful abilities, making them more targeted while ensuring she remains a strong and impactful attacker. One additional Operator remaster is planned for Year 11.
New Player Onboarding
A new phased onboarding system is being introduced to help ease new players into Siege:
- Bot-only matches
- Real teammates vs. bots
- Beginner PvP matchmaking
This system is designed to reduce early frustration and facilitate a smoother learning curve for new players.
Player Protection Updates
Several updates are being implemented to enhance player protection:
- Mousetrap bans are now active.
- Improved chat detection better recognizes positive behavior.
- Helpful communication now contributes positively to Reputation Standing.
Feedback Matters
Player feedback continues to directly influence updates like Ranked 3.0 and rotation changes, particularly through seasonal surveys.
This update underscores a commitment to making Siege more balanced, accessible, and aligned with community desires, all while maintaining a strong competitive experience. For comprehensive details and developer insights, players can watch the Community Checkpoint #2 livestream replay.
