Delta Force Introduces Steam Map Pack System to Reduce Download Size in Season Echo

Delta Force is restructuring how its maps are delivered on Steam with the upcoming Season Echo update on April 21. This change aims to significantly reduce the initial download size and provide a faster path into the game for all Steam players.

What's Changing

The game's map library will be split into a smaller base install and two free downloadable map packs. The current full map library requires a single, large download, which has become a barrier for new players and those with limited storage. Starting with Season Echo, the game package will be organized into four parts:

  • Base Game (auto-installed): Zero Dam, Space City, Cracked, Trench Lines, Aftershock, Akh Canal
  • Operations Map Pack (free DLC): Layali Grove, Brakkesh, Tide Prison
  • Warfare Map Pack (free DLC): Threshold, Knife Edge, Ascension, Shafted, Trainwreck, Cyclone, Monument, Fault

Both map packs are free DLCs on Steam, designed to reduce the mandatory download size while keeping every map fully accessible. Additionally, a separate, paid DLC will contain weapon appearances and vehicle appearances from the Genesis, Relink, and Starfall seasons, independent of the free map packs.

Impact on Existing Players

After the Season Echo update, the base game install size will be substantially smaller, reduced from approximately 145.37 GB to around 84.9 GB. Maps moved into the DLC packs will need to be re-downloaded, as they will not carry over automatically. Players will be prompted in-game to download a pack when queuing for a map it contains, or they can download both map packs in advance from their Steam Library (right-click Delta Force -> Properties -> DLC).

This re-download is a one-time process. Game data, progress, loadouts, and account information will remain unaffected.

Benefits for New Players

New players will experience a significantly lower entry barrier. They will install a smaller base game and can begin playing immediately. Additional map packs will download automatically when needed, eliminating the need to wait through a massive initial install before their first match.

How to Download Map Packs

Players have two primary methods to download the free map packs:

  1. In-game prompt: When queuing for a map requiring a DLC pack not yet downloaded, the game will notify players and direct them to the download page.
  2. Steam Library: Right-click Delta Force in the Steam Library -> Properties -> DLC. Locate and install the Operations Map Pack and Warfare Map Pack directly.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Cost: Both map packs are completely free; this is a download structure change, not a monetization change.
  • Map Access: All maps remain fully accessible to all players, requiring only the download of the relevant DLC pack.
  • Individual Maps: Individual maps cannot be downloaded; each map pack is a complete package.
  • Gameplay Impact: This change is purely structural and does not affect gameplay, matchmaking, progress, or loadouts.

This new system aims to make Delta Force more accessible with faster downloads, lower storage requirements, and a smoother onboarding experience, while ensuring all maps remain free and available.
