Deadlock: Urn Mechanics Reworked in Latest Updates

Valve has rolled out two minor updates for Deadlock, focusing heavily on significant adjustments to the Urn mechanics, alongside a small change to parrying. These changes aim to refine the gameplay flow around the objective.

Urn Mechanics Overhaul

The updates introduce a comprehensive rework of how the Urn functions, from its spawn to its deposit:

  • Spawn and Timers: Urn spawn times and intervals have been adjusted from 10/15/20/25/etc to 12/18/24/30/etc. The Urn timer will now freeze when Frozen Shelter is active.
  • Aura Changes: The Urn no longer provides a +35% Bullet and Spirit Resist aura for the trailing team when carried or dropped. This aura is now only active when the Urn is being deposited. Instead, the Urn runner on the trailing team now gains +35% Bullet and Spirit Resist for themselves only.
  • Runner Buffs: Urn runners now receive substantial buffs, including +2m Sprint, +1 Stamina, +10% Dash Distance, and +15% Stamina Regen. The runner for the trailing team gains an extra +4m Sprint. Sprint is no longer disabled for the Urn runner, and they now have max sprint acceleration.
  • Location and Deposit: The Urn drop-off point has moved from the above bridge in the mid-lane to under the bridge in the side-lane. The Urn pickup spot is now where the old comeback drop-off spots were for trailing teams. Urn deposit timers for favored/neutral/unfavored teams have increased from 3/5/10s to 5/10/15s.
  • Held Timer and Damage: The Urn will now deal damage to the runner after a team has held it for 30s (down from 50s), but this timer freezes when enemies are within a 40m radius. The Urn will always add at least 2s to the 30s held timer limit upon pickup, even if immediately dropped. The 12s prevention from picking up the Urn after it's dropped from the previous 50s team held timer has been removed.
  • Urn Return Logic: The conditions for the Urn returning home have been reworked. It will now stay in place on the ground as long as enemies are within a 40m radius (enemies of the last person to drop it). If no enemies are present, it will wait up to 13s if a friendly player is within 40m. If the Urn held timer exceeds 45s (frozen if enemies are nearby), it will immediately return home upon being dropped if no enemies are nearby.
  • Contest and Collision: The Urn timer extension when contested has increased from 1.25s to 3s. The Urn collision radius has been increased by 20%.
  • Comeback Auras: Urn comeback bullet and spirit resist auras have been reduced from 50% to 35%.

Parry Adjustments

Beyond the Urn, a minor adjustment to parrying has been implemented:

  • Trooper Parry: Parrying a trooper no longer resets your parry cooldown (though it won't end your parry early like a hero hit does). Parrying a trooper will now stun the trooper.

Valve encourages players to continue providing feedback on the Urn as they iterate on these significant changes.
