Apex Legends Overclocked: New Legend Axle, Deathbox Respawns, Chain Healing, and Legend Balance Changes

The Overclocked update for Apex Legends introduces a new Legend, Axle, alongside significant meta changes including new mechanics and Legend balance adjustments. The weapons team focused on maintenance for this update, with more weapon balance discussions planned for future Designer's Notes.
New Legend: Axle
Axle, the newest Legend, is designed to transform the battlefield with her movement-focused kit, emphasizing lateral mobility and vertical enemy displacement. Her development stemmed from an assessment of movement in Apex, particularly the dominance of Valkyrie and Octane.
- Passive: Drift
- Increased speed and control while sliding.
- Tactical: Nitro Gate
- Deploys a speed gate that forces users into a boosted slide with greatly increased velocity and lateral control for up to five seconds. The gate affects both friendlies and enemies.
- Ultimate: Kickstart
- Deploys an enemy-seeking drone that traverses close to the ground. Upon spotting an enemy, it seeks and detonates, knocking targets into the air, revealing them, dealing explosive damage, and briefly stunning them.
- Level 2 Upgrades:
- Super Slider: Gain a second Tactical charge.
- Automata: Gain a second Ultimate charge.
- Level 3 Upgrades:
- Jump Gate: Upgrades the Nitro Gate to provide a double-jump while its effect is active.
- Sliding Shooter: Bullets shot while sliding come straight from inventory, capped at half the weapon's max magazine size, allowing for longer continuous firing.
New Mechanic: Deathbox Respawns
Players can now respawn teammates directly from their Deathboxes by pressing and holding. This offers a faster alternative to Respawn Beacons, rewarding teams that successfully clear and hold an area. The process is noisy, visible, and takes a minimum of 7 seconds. Subsequent deaths incur increasing Lockout Time penalties, temporarily disabling Deathbox Respawns, which reset after surviving for longer periods.
New Mechanic: Chain Healing
Chain Healing allows players to queue another healing item for immediate use upon completion of the current heal. This Quality of Life change streamlines the healing process. Three options are available in settings:
- Off: Disables Chain Healing.
- Single (Default): Allows queuing one additional heal manually, defaulting to the same heal type or allowing selection via the healing menu/shortcuts.
- Auto: Continuously queues the active healing item until resources run out or the health pool is full.
Legend Balance Changes
Vantage
Vantage has been underperforming, especially in later game stages. The goal is to keep her kit powerful throughout the match and better integrate her passive.

- Passive:
- Tracking a team with Spotter’s Lens now generates 70% of an ultimate bullet (10-second cooldown per team). This incentivizes passive use and provides more reliable ultimate uptime.
- Tactical:
- Vantage is now immune to hard landings when exiting her tactical.
- Increased velocity from 20 m/s to 21 m/s.
- Increased double jump range from 4m to 7m.
- Reduced deceleration at final destination by ~25%.
- Cooldown reduced from 20s to 17s. These buffs aim to keep her agile in closer engagements.
- Ultimate:
- Canted Sight: Pressing the toggle fire mode button switches to a 2x canted optic.
- While canted, rechamber time decreased from 1.2s to 1.1s.
- While canted, ADS time reduced from 0.5s to 0.4s.
- Bullet scaling is drastically reduced in Canted sights.
- Increased aiming responsiveness with normal sight: Reduced ADS time from 0.6s to 0.5s.
- Increased weapon handling in both modes: Reduced Holster and Lower time from 0.5s to 0.4s; Reduced Deploy and Raise time from 1.5s to 1.3s.
- Default normal scope magnification increased from 3x to 4x. These changes provide optics for all ranges and improve CQC handling.
- Canted Sight: Pressing the toggle fire mode button switches to a 2x canted optic.
- Upgrades:
- Tactical Cooldown replaced with Herd Tracker: Pinging an enemy tracks the entire team, enhancing her recon role.
Conduit
Conduit has a low pick rate despite strong performance. Changes aim to increase her individual agency, reduce reliance on upgrades, and improve her ultimate's pacing.

- Tactical:
- Split Charge is now part of her base kit with slight balance tweaks, providing two charges from the start.
- New Upgrades (Level 3):
- Instant Barrier: Grants Conduit and her ally an immediate burst of temporary shields upon using her tactical.
- Enduring Barrier: Allows the tactical's regen to persist through damage, supporting aggressive play.
- Passive:
- Savior’s Speed now grants bonus movement speed (in addition to the base effect) when sprinting toward Skirmishers, addressing redundancy with the Skirmisher class passive.
Alter
Alter has been dominant at high levels due to her evasiveness and team utility. The goal is to introduce more risk into her gameplay without drastically changing her playstyle.

- Ultimate (Void Nexus):
- Decreased range.
- Increased time to recall.
- Decreased delay before the portal to follow opens. These changes require more considerate use and allow for greater counterplay.
- Tactical (Void Passage):
- Increased cooldown, requiring more strategic use of her double tactical ability.
- Upgrades:
- Void Breacher (Level 3) received an additional nerf to reduce her late-game power and mobility.
These changes aim to bring Alter's performance more in line with healthy standards without altering her core playstyle too drastically. For a comprehensive list of all changes, refer to the full Patch Notes releasing on May 4th, 2026.
