Apex Legends: New Anti-Cheat System Bans 1,000 Accounts, PC Performance Under Investigation

Apex Legends has rolled out a significant update addressing both ongoing PC performance issues and a major crackdown on cheating. The anti-cheat team has deployed a new detection system, resulting in over 1,000 bans in its first week alone.

Anti-Cheat System Expands Its Reach

The Anti-Cheat Team has been developing and testing a new detection system for several months. This system has now gone live, identifying and removing 1,000 accounts for using unauthorized software and gameplay enhancements within its first week. Notably, these bans also targeted Xim and Titan users, expanding protection against these cheating devices.

The team emphasized that the 1,000-account mark was achieved with a conservative enforcement approach, and they anticipate this number will grow significantly as the system's reach expands and it is further tuned. This new tool was deployed after extensive verification to ensure a high degree of accuracy.

In addition to the new system, a highly focused ban wave targeted the top 100 positions on leaderboards across all platforms. This resulted in:

  • Console: 79 bans
  • PC: 7 bans

This type of targeted integrity check is a regular part of the anti-cheat team's strategy. The team is also actively working on more comprehensive controller cheating detections, a complex process requiring substantial data analysis to ensure accuracy and minimize false positives.

PC Performance Issues Under Investigation

Respawn is actively investigating visual and performance issues impacting players using specific PC hardware. For NVIDIA users, updating to the newest driver (available here) is recommended to alleviate some of these problems.

As a temporary workaround for those experiencing stuttering or FPS drops on PC, players have reported that switching from the EA App to Steam can alleviate the issue in the short term.
