Apex Legends: Anti-Cheat Bans, Hemlok Nerf, and Matchmaking Fixes

Apex Legends has rolled out a series of updates on April 2, 2026, addressing anti-cheat measures, weapon balance, and critical matchmaking issues.
Anti-Cheat Update: Over 73,000 Bans
As Season 28's second split begins, the Apex Legends anti-cheat team has announced significant progress in combating cheaters. A total of 73,591 accounts were banned across all platforms for various cheating infractions. The breakdown by platform shows a strong focus on PC:
- PC: 70,242 bans
- Console: 3,349 bans
Targeted hardware bans also saw substantial numbers:
- XIM/Titan: 2,911
- HWID Spoofer: 4,405
- DMA: 1,103
- Other Cheating Hardware/Cheat detections: 37,051
The anti-cheat team confirmed that more updates, enhancements, and detections are actively being developed, promising further improvements soon.
Weapon Balancing: Hemlok Nerf and P2020 Buff
A quick hotfix was deployed to adjust weapon meta, specifically targeting the Hemlok and P2020.
-
HEMLOK
- Decreased base damage to 22 (was 23)
- Decreased magazine size across all tiers by 2
- All Trophy Systems should now properly intercept Hemlok's Breach Charge
-
P2020
- Increased base damage to 24 (was 23)
Developers noted that the new Elite Hemlok had become the dominant weapon in the meta, leading to these adjustments to reduce its damage potential. The P2020 received a slight damage buff to make it a more viable secondary option.
Additionally, a Horizon skin that was previously causing crashes has been re-enabled.
Matchmaking Issues Resolved
Players experienced temporary difficulties with matchmaking and entering multiplayer games. The issue was quickly identified and resolved on the same day, allowing players to return to games as usual.
